- Will both credit and debit cards be upgraded to a MasterCard?
Yes. We are upgrading all Visa Credit and Debit Cards to MasterCard.
- When will I get my new card?
Your new Debit Card will arrive 1-2 weeks after you receive the first notice in the mail. All members should receive their new MasterCard by mid-June. If your Visa expires in March, you will receive a Visa in the mail first, and then your new MasterCard shortly afterwards.
- When will my Visa card stop working?
Your Visa card will stop working 30 days after you are mailed your new MasterCard, or the Visa’s expiration date, whichever comes first.
- How long can I wait before activating my new card?
We recommend you activate it as soon as you receive it. You should activate your new MasterCard within 30 days of receiving it to ensure that you have a functioning debit card once your Visa card is deactivated.
- What do I need to do to…
- Start using my new card?
When you receive your new card in the mail, you will need to call the 800 number on the sticker to activate the card. Be sure to stop using your Visa card once you activate your MasterCard.
- Dispose of my old card?
The safest way to dispose of your old card is to shred them or cut them into pieces.
- Start using Purchase Assurance/Insurance programs?
Your signature-based purchases will automatically be covered by MasterCard’s purchase protection programs – no need to enroll or register! Be sure to use your Debit Card with a “credit” option at the point of sale, instead of your PIN, to make sure you’re taking advantage of this great benefit.
- Start using MasterCard MarketPlace™/Overwhelming Offers?
To sign-up for MasterCard’s MarketPlace and Overwhelming Offers programs, please visit http://www.marketplace.mastercard.com to set up your account and start saving!
- Is there anything else I should do?
Some merchants participate in the MasterCard SecureCode™ program that gives you additional security when making purchases online. To enroll, visit the MasterCard SecureCode website.
- What do I need to do with automatic/recurring payments on my Visa card?
For any payments tied to your Visa Debit Card, you will need to contact the payee and give them your new MasterCard info, as your card number and expiration date will be different. Any authorization requests from payees with the previous Visa card number will be denied 30 days after you receive/are mailed your MasterCard.
- What will happen with the PIN on my Visa card?
For most members, your PIN should stay the same. You will receive a confirmation of your PIN in the mail shortly after you receive your new card. If the PIN that is mailed to you is different from what you were using on your Visa Debit Card, please bring your MasterCard into one of our branches and we will update it for you.
- How will this affect me when I use my card with merchants?
It shouldn’t affect you at all. MasterCard is accepted at over 25 million locations worldwide. In the rare instance that MasterCard isn’t accepted for signature-based purchases, you can make the purchase using your Debit Card’s PIN instead.
- How can I make sure I’m receiving all the benefits of my new MasterCard Debit Card?
Most of the benefits with your new card are tied to signature-based transactions instead of your PIN. Wherever possible, select “Credit” at the point of sale and use your signature to authorize your purchases and you’ll get the most out of your new card!
